Choosing a Card Printer for Your Institution

You have a variety of choices in card printers. Consider the following criteria when evaluating printers:
  • Photo Quality: Are you printing photos on your identification cards? If so, be sure the image’s print quality will be clear and lasting.
  • Quantity: How many cards do you plan to print at one time? Card volume and print speeds should be considered to ensure time-efficient production of your badges.
  • Single- or Dual-Sided: How much information do you need to print on your card? With schools requiring increasing content on ID cards, you may need to consider a Dual-Sided printer.
  • Encoding: Will these cards be swiped or read electronically? If your security system has a machine-readable function, look for a card printer that can encode, with technology like magnetic stripes and smart card chips.
